The Importance of Tranquility and Dignity

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad was emphasizing the importance of being tranquil and dignified, as righteousness does not come from rushing.

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas that Usmah bin Zaid said: "The Messenger of Allah departed from Arafat and I was riding behind him. He started trying to rein in his camel until its ears nearly touched the front of the saddle, and he was saying: 'O people, you must be tranquil and dignified, for righteousness does not come by making camels hurry'."
أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يُونُسَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ، قَالَ أَفَاضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ مِنْ عَرَفَةَ وَأَنَا رَدِيفُهُ فَجَعَلَ يَكْبَحُ رَاحِلَتَهُ حَتَّى أَنَّ ذِفْرَاهَا لَيَكَادُ يُصِيبُ قَادِمَةَ الرَّحْلِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالسَّكِينَةِ وَالْوَقَارِ فَإِنَّ الْبِرَّ لَيْسَ فِي إِيضَاعِ الإِبِلِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of tranquility and dignity in our lives. It is narrated by Ibn Abbas that Usmah bin Zaid said that the Prophet Muhammad was riding on a camel while departing from Arafat. He started to rein in his camel until its ears nearly touched the front of the saddle, while saying “O people, you must be tranquil and dignified, for righteousness does not come by making camels hurry”. This hadith teaches us that we should take our time when doing things instead of rushing through them. We should strive to be calm and composed in all situations as this will lead us to righteousness. We should also maintain our dignity at all times as it is an important part of being righteous Muslims.
