Sunan an-Nasai 2985 (Book 24, Hadith 368) #17597
The Declaration of Faith at As-Safa and Al-Marwah

SUMMARY: This hadith is about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) climbing up As-Safa and Al-Marwah, reciting the declaration of faith, and then walking until he reached level ground.

It was narrated from Jabir that the Messenger of Allah went to As-Safa and climbed up it and said: "La ilaha illallah, Wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, yuhyi wa yumitu, wa huwaala kulli shayin qadir (There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone with no partner or associate, His is the dominion and to Him be praise, He gives life and death, and He has power over all things)". Then he walked until he reached level ground, then he hastened until the ground began to rise. Then he walked until he came to Al-Marwah, and he did the same there as he had at As-Safa, until he had finished his Sai".

QUICK LESSONS:
Remember your faith in Allah; Trust in Him at all times; Recite declarations of faith publicly while performing religious rituals such as Hajj.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates the story of Prophet Muhammad's journey to As-Safa and Al-Marwah during his pilgrimage to Makkah. At both locations, he climbed up the hill and recited a declaration of faith which translates to "There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone with no partner or associate, His is the dominion and to Him be praise, He gives life and death, and He has power over all things". By doing this action in public view during his pilgrimage, Prophet Muhammad was teaching us that we should always remember our faith in Allah even when we are performing religious rituals such as Hajj. Additionally, this hadith teaches us that we should always remember that Allah has power over all things - both life and death - so it is important for us to trust in Him at all times.
