Wearing Perfume During Ihram

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's practice of wearing perfume when entering Ihram and how it was approved by Ibn Umar and Aishah.

It was narrated from Ibrahim bin Al-Muntashir that his father said: "I asked Ibn 'Umar about wearing perfume when entering Ihram and he said: 'If I were to be daubed with tar that would be dearer to me than that, I mentioned that to 'Aishah and she said: 'May Allah have mercy on Abu 'Abdur-Rahman. I used to put perfume on the Messenger of Allah then he would go around his wives, then in the morning he would be smelling strongly of perfume.

QUICK LESSONS:
Wear perfumes while in a state of ihraam .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of wearing perfume when entering into a state of Ihram. It was narrated from Ibrahim bin Al-Muntashir that his father said he asked Ibn 'Umar about wearing perfume when entering into a state of Ihram and he said it would be better than being daubed with tar. When this was mentioned to Aishah she praised Abu Abdur-Rahman for his practice as she used to put perfume on the Prophet Muhammad before he went around his wives and in the morning he would still smell strongly of it. This shows us that although there are certain restrictions during a state of Ihram, such as not cutting one's hair or nails, wearing perfumes is allowed as long as it does not cause harm or discomfort to others.
