Strive for utmost cleanliness when engaging in religious activities .

This hadith is about the importance of being clean and pure when entering into a state of holiness such as the state of ihram for Hajj or Umrah. Ibn Umar said that it would be better to wake up with tar on him than to wake up smelling of perfume before entering ihram.
