Giving Charity in the Time of the Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad and his companions used to give a certain amount of dates, barley, or cottage cheese as charity.

It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri said: "At the time of the Messenger of Allah we used to give a Sa' of dates, or a Sa' of barley, or a Sa' of cottage cheese, and we did not give anything else".

EXPLANATIONS:
During the time of Prophet Muhammad, it was common practice for people to give charity in the form of dates, barley or cottage cheese. This was done as an act of kindness and generosity towards those who were less fortunate than them. It is important to remember that giving charity is not only about money but also about giving something from your own resources such as food items. This hadith teaches us that we should be generous with our resources and help those who are in need. We should also strive to do good deeds even if they are small because every little bit counts when it comes to helping others.
