Allah's Allowances for Travelers

SUMMARY: Allah has made allowances for travelers in terms of fasting and prayer.

Jafar bin 'Amr bin Umayyah Ad-Damri narrated that his father said: "I came to the Messenger of Allah and the Messenger of Allah said to me: 'Stay and have a meal for breakfast, O Abu Umayyah'. I said: I am fasting'. He said: 'Come and I will tell you about the traveler. Allah has waived meaning the fasting and half the prayer for him"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow the teachings of Islam even when you are away from home .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the allowances that Allah has given to travelers. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was speaking to Abu Umayyah who said he was fasting. The Prophet ﷺ then told him about the traveler and how Allah had waived or relieved them from having to fast and half their prayer while they were traveling. This means that when a person is traveling they do not have to fast or pray as much as usual because it can be difficult while on the road. It is important for us to remember this allowance so that we can make sure we are following the teachings of Islam even when we are away from home. We should also remember that this allowance only applies when a person is actually traveling and not just taking a break from their regular routine at home or work.
