The Prophet's Call at the Well of Badr

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) called out to the enemies of Islam who had been killed in the Battle of Badr, asking them if they had found what their Lord promised to be true.

It was narrated that Anas said: "During the night, the Muslims heard the Messenger of Allah standing and calling out at the well of badr; 'O Abu Jahl bin Hisham! O Shaaibh bin Rabiah! O 'Utbah bin Rabiah! O Umayyah bin Khalaf! Have you found what your Lord promised to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true'. They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, are you calling out to people who have turned into rotten corpses?' He said: 'You do not hear what I say any better than they do, but they cannot answer'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Believe in Allah’s promise ; Strive towards righteousness ; Have hope despite tragedy or death .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a momentous event that took place during the night after the Battle of Badr. During this battle, Muslims fought against non-believers and were victorious. Afterward, during the night, Prophet Muhammad stood by a well and called out to four men who were killed in battle; Abu Jahl bin Hisham, Shaaibh bin Rabiah, 'Utbah bin Rabiah and Umayyah bin Khalaf. He asked them if they had found what their Lord promised to be true. When his companions asked him why he was calling out to people who were already dead, he replied that although they could not answer him back physically due to being dead, they could still hear him better than his companions could. This shows us how powerful faith can be; even when faced with death or tragedy we should never lose hope or faith in Allah's promise as it will always come true eventually. We should also remember that our actions have consequences and we will all face judgement for our deeds one day so it is important for us to strive towards righteousness while we are alive on this earth so that we may receive Allah's mercy on judgement day.
