Sunan an-Nasai 1868 (Book 21, Hadith 51) #16479
Compassion in Difficult Times

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) was asked to come to his daughter's house as her son was dying. He sent a message of patience and seeking reward, but she adjured him to come. He went with some companions and when he saw the boy, he said that Allah has mercy on those who are compassionate.

It was narrated that Abu 'Uthman said: "Usamah bin Zaid told me: 'The daughter of the Prophet sent word to him telling him: A son of mine is dying, come to us. He sent word to her, conveying his greeting of salam and saying: "To Allah belongs that which He takes and that which He gives, and everything has an appointed time with Allah. Let her be patient and seek reward". She sent word to him adjuring him to go to her. So he got up and went, accompanied by Sa'd bin 'Ubadah, Muadh bin Jabal, Ubayy bin Kab Zaid bin Thabit and some other men. The boy was lifted up to the Messenger of Allah, with the death rattle sounding in him, and his eyes filled with tears. Sa'd said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is this?" he said: "This is compassion which Allah has created in the hearts of His slaves. Allah has mercy on His compassionate slaves".

QUICK LESSONS:
Have patience during difficult times; Seek reward from Allah instead of complaining or getting angry at Him; Have compassion towards others even if we cannot help them directly or do not understand their situation completely .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of compassion in difficult times. It is narrated by Abu 'Uthman that Usamah bin Zaid told him that the daughter of the Prophet sent word to him telling him that her son was dying and asked for his presence. The Prophet responded with a message conveying salam and saying that everything has an appointed time with Allah, so she should be patient and seek reward instead. However, she adjured him to go so he got up accompanied by some other men and went there. When they arrived at her house, they found out that the boy was already dead but still had death rattle sounding in him while his eyes were filled with tears which made everyone sad including the Prophet himself who said it is compassion which Allah has created in His slaves' hearts and He will have mercy on those who are compassionate too.

This hadith teaches us many values such as patience during difficult times, seeking reward from Allah for our patience instead of complaining or getting angry at Him, having compassion towards others even if we cannot help them directly or do not understand their situation completely because it is only then when we can truly feel what they are going through; this will also make us more deserving of Allah's mercy as well as being able to empathize better with others' pain or suffering too.
