Sunan an-Nasai 1820 (Book 21, Hadith 3) #16431
Praying for Guidance and Mercy in Times of Hardship

SUMMARY: This hadith encourages us to not wish for death due to hardships, but instead to pray for Allah's guidance and mercy.

It was narrated form Anas that the Messenger of Allah said: "None of you should wish for death because of some harm that befalls him, rather he should say: 'Allahumma ahini ma kanatil-hayatu khairanli wa tawaffani idha kanatil-wafatu khairanli (O Allah, keep me alive so alive so long as life is good for me, and cause me to die when death is good for me)"'

QUICK LESSONS:
Turn towards Allah SWT during times of hardship by praying with faith & trust His plan .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith encourages us to turn towards Allah in times of hardship, rather than wishing for death. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that we should supplicate with the words “O Allah, keep me alive so long as life is good for me, and cause me to die when death is good for me”. By doing this we are asking Allah SWT to guide us through our difficulties and grant us His mercy. We should trust that whatever happens is part of His plan and He will provide a way out from our troubles if we turn towards Him with faith. It teaches us that no matter how difficult the situation may be, it is important not to lose hope or give up on life but instead seek solace in prayer and have faith in God’s plan.
