Sunan an-Nasai 1413 (Book 14, Hadith 50) #16024
Wealth & Children as a Trial

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ was preaching when Al-Hasan and Al-Husain came wearing red shirts and stumbling. He interrupted himself to pick them up, then went back to the minbar and quoted a verse from the Quran about wealth and children being a trial.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Buraidah that his father said: "The Prophet was preaching, then Al-Hasan and Al-Husain came, wearing red shirts and stumbling in them. The Prophet came down, interrupting himself, and picked them up, then he went back to the minbar and said: 'Allah has spoken the truth: Your wealth and your children are only a trial (At-Taghabun 64:15). I saw these two stumbling in their shirts and I could not continue until I had interrupted myself and picked them up'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Take responsibility towards family members , Focus on Allah instead of worldly matters , Use possessions properly according to Islamic teachings .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how wealth and children can be a trial for us in our lives. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was giving a sermon when he saw his grandchildren, Al-Hasan and Al-Husain, wearing red shirts but stumbling in them. He stopped what he was doing to pick them up before continuing with his sermon. After picking them up, he quoted from the Quran that “Your wealth and your children are only a trial” which means that having these things can be difficult for us because it can lead us away from Allah if we don’t use it properly or take care of our children correctly. We should remember this hadith whenever we feel overwhelmed by our possessions or responsibilities so that we stay focused on Allah instead of getting distracted by worldly matters.
