Sunan an-Nasai 1226 (Book 13, Hadith 48) #15834
Questioning Prayer Length

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) leading a prayer and Dhul-Yadain questioning him about it. The Prophet (PBUH) then asked the people if Dhul-Yadain was speaking the truth, and upon confirmation, he completed what was left of the prayer.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah led us in praying 'Asr, and he said the salam after two rak'ahs. Dhul-Yadain stood up and said: 'Has the prayer been shortened, O Messenger of Allah or did you forget?' The Messenger of Allah said: 'Neither'. He said: 'One of them happened, O Messenger of Allah '. The Messenger of Allah turned to the people and said: 'Is Dhul-Yadain speaking the truth?' They said: 'Yes'. So the Messenger of Allah completed what was left of the prayer, then he prostrated twice when he was sitting after the taslim".

QUICK LESSONS:
Ask for confirmation from those around you when making mistakes during prayers .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how one should conduct themselves in prayer. It tells us that when praying, we should not shorten our prayers or forget any part of them without reason. If we do make a mistake, we should ask for confirmation from those around us to ensure that we have done everything correctly. Additionally, if someone questions us on our actions during prayer, we should answer truthfully and not be offended by their inquiry as they are only trying to help us pray correctly. Finally, this hadith also teaches us that even if something has been missed in prayer due to an error or forgetfulness, it can still be made up afterwards with prostration at the end of taslim.
