Demonstrating Strength Through Rituals

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) performed the rituals of Tawaf and Sa'i to demonstrate his strength to the pagans.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Allah's Messenger performed Tawaf of the Ka'ba and the Sa'i of Safa and Marwa so as to show his strength to the pagans.

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform religious rituals with faithfulness & commitment ; Believe & follow God's teachings ; Persevere even when faced with opposition from non-believers

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was a strong believer in Allah and His teachings. He wanted to show this strength to the pagans by performing two rituals - Tawaf and Sa’i. During Tawaf, Muslims walk around the Kaaba seven times in a counter-clockwise direction while reciting prayers. This is done as an act of worship towards Allah. During Sa’i, Muslims walk between two hills called Safa and Marwa seven times in order to commemorate Hagar's search for water for her son Ishmael when they were stranded in the desert near Mecca. Both these rituals are important parts of Hajj pilgrimage which is one of the five pillars of Islam that all Muslims must perform at least once in their lifetime if they are able financially and physically able to do so. By performing these rituals with strength and conviction, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ showed his faithfulness towards Allah even when faced with opposition from non-believers or pagans at that time.
