Raising Hands in Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad used to raise his hands when he started to pray, bowed and stood up but not when he prostrated.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "The Messenger of Allah used to raise his hands when he started to pray, and when he bowed, and when he stood up, but he did not do that when he prostrated".
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْكُوفِيُّ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا رَكَعَ وَإِذَا رَفَعَ وَكَانَ لاَ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ فِي السُّجُودِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Ibn 'Umar states that the Prophet Muhammad used to raise his hands when he began praying, bowed and stood up during prayer. However, the Prophet did not raise his hands when he prostrated. This is an important teaching of Islam as it shows how Muslims should perform their prayers in order for them to be accepted by Allah. It is important for Muslims to follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad as it will help them gain rewards from Allah and increase their faith in Him.
