Sunan an-Nasai 984 (Book 11, Hadith 109) #15592
Reciting Short Verses During Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ warned Mu'adh against reciting long verses of the Quran during prayer, as it may cause hardship to people.

It was narrated that Jabir said: "A man from among the Ansar passed Mu'adh leading two camels, when he (Mu'adh) was praying maghrib, and he was starting to recite Al-Baqarah. So that man prayed then went away. News of that reached the Prophet and he said: 'Do you want to cause hardship to the people, O Mu'adh; do you want to cause hardship to the people, O Mu'adh? Why don't you recite: 'Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High' and 'By the sun and its brightness' and the like?'"

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of reciting short verses from the Quran during prayer. It was narrated by Jabir that a man passed Mu'adh while he was praying maghrib and starting to recite Al-Baqarah. When news of this reached the Prophet (ﷺ), he warned Mu'adh against reciting long verses during prayer as it may cause hardship to people. He suggested that instead of reciting long verses, Mu'adh should recite shorter ones such as 'Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High', 'By the sun and its brightness', and other similar ones. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful when we are praying so that we do not cause any difficulty or hardship for others who are also praying with us. We should try our best to keep our prayers short and sweet by only reciting shorter verses from the Quran instead of longer ones.
