Sunan an-Nasai 670 (Book 7, Hadith 45) #15278
Distractions During Prayer

SUMMARY: The hadith explains that when the call for prayer is made, Satan runs away and when the Iqamah is said, he returns to distract people from their prayers.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (S.A.W) said: "When the call for the prayer is given, the Shaitan takes to his heels, passing wind loudly so that he will not hear the call to prayer. When the call to prayer is finished, he comes back. And when the Iqamah is said, he again takes to his heels, and after it is completed, he returns again to interfere between the (praying) person and his heart, saying to him: 'Remember such and such, remember such and such,' - things that he had not remembered - until he does not know how many (Rak'ahs) he has prayed".

QUICK LESSONS:
Focus on your prayers without getting distracted by anything else around you .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains how Satan tries to interfere with our prayers. When we hear the call for prayer, known as Adhan, and then the Iqamah which signals that it's time to start praying, Satan takes this opportunity to run away so he won't be able to hear it. However once we start praying he comes back and tries his best to distract us by making us remember things that we hadn't thought of before. He does this until we don't even know how many Rak'ahs of prayer we have completed. This hadith teaches us that during our prayers it is important for us not be distracted by anything else and focus on what we are doing in order for our prayers to be accepted by Allah SWT.
