Sunan an-Nasai 479 (Book 5, Hadith 32) #15087
The Importance of 'Asr Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) said that missing the 'Asr prayer is like robbing one's family and wealth.

It was narrated from 'Irak bin Malik that he heard that Nawfal bin Mu'awiyah said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'Among the prayers is a prayer which, if a person misses it, it is as if he has robbed of his family and his wealth". Ibn 'Umar said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'It is 'Asr prayer'." Muhammad bin Ishaq contradicted him. 1 1 That is, Muhammad bin Ishaq narrated it from Yazid bin Abi Habib with the following chain and wording, which differs with this narration, reported by Al-Laith from Yazid.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of the 'Asr prayer in Islam. It is narrated by Irak bin Malik who heard it from Nawfal bin Mu'awiyah who heard it from the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). According to this hadith, if a person misses their 'Asr prayer then it is as if they have robbed their family and wealth. This means that not only does missing this prayer have spiritual consequences but also material ones as well. Therefore, Muslims should strive to make sure they never miss their prayers and especially not the important one of 'Asr which falls in mid-afternoon every day.
