Sunan an-Nasai 372 (Book 3, Hadith 24) #14978
Praying During Menstruation

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his wife Aisha sleeping under a single blanket while she was menstruating, and how he would wash any spots that got on him from her and still pray in it.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah and I would sleep under a single blanket when I was menstruating. If anything got on him from me, he would wash that spot and no more, and pray in it, then come back. If anything got on it again from me, he would do likewise and no more, and he would pray in it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your spouse even during times of impurity according to Islamic law; maintain cleanliness when praying; treat natural bodily functions with dignity; follow the example of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH in all matters related to faith and life.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) exemplary behavior when it came to cleanliness, prayer, and respect for his wife Aisha. Even though she was menstruating, they would sleep under a single blanket. If anything got on him from her, he would wash that spot and no more before praying in it. This shows us how important cleanliness is to Muslims during prayer as well as how much respect the Prophet showed for his wife even during this time of impurity according to Islamic law. It also teaches us that we should not be ashamed or embarrassed by our natural bodily functions but rather treat them with respect and dignity.
