Sahih al-Bukhari 1553 (Book 25, Hadith 39) #1490
Reciting Talbiya When Travelling to Makkah

SUMMARY: Ibn Umar would recite Talbiya when travelling to Makkah and stop reciting it once he reached the boundaries of the Haram. He also claimed that this was done by Allah's Messenger (ﷺ).

Narrated Nafi', 'Whenever Ibn 'Umar finished his morning Salat at Dhul-Hulaifa he would get his Rahila (mount) prepared. Then, he would ride on it, and after it had stood up straight (ready to set out), he would face Al-Qiblah (the Ka,bah at Makkah) while sitting (on his mount) and recite Talbiya. When he had reached the boundaries of the Haram (or Makkah), he would stop recitation of Talbiya till he reached Dhi-Tuwa (near Makkah) where he would pass the night till it was dawn. After offering the morning Salat, he would take a bath. He claimed that Allah's Messenger had done the same.

QUICK LESSONS:
Recite talbiyah while traveling towards makka .

EXPLANATIONS:
Ibn Umar was known for his piety and devotion to Allah. He would recite the talbiyah, a prayer of supplication, when travelling to Makkah. This prayer is usually recited during Hajj or Umrah, but Ibn Umar chose to recite it on his journey as well. Once he reached the boundaries of the Haram, which is an area around Makkah that is considered sacred, he would stop reciting until he arrived at Dhi-Tuwa near Makkah where he would spend the night before offering morning prayers and taking a bath in preparation for entering into the city itself. This practice was also done by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself according to Ibn Umar's claim. The hadith teaches us about being devoted in our worship even while travelling and reminds us of how important it is for Muslims to respect sacred places like those found in and around Makka.
