Sahih al-Bukhari 1480 (Book 24, Hadith 81) #1420
The Virtue of Self-Reliance

SUMMARY: It is better to work hard and earn money than to ask others for help.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "No doubt, it is better for a person to take a rope and proceed in the morning to the mountains and cut the wood and then sell it, and eat from this income and give alms from it than to ask others for something".

QUICK LESSONS:
Take initiative & work hard; Provide for oneself; Be generous with what one has earned; Help those in need around them

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Abu Huraira, speaks about the virtue of self-reliance. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encourages us to take initiative and work hard in order to provide for ourselves instead of relying on others. He suggests that we should go out in the morning and cut wood from the mountains, sell it, use the income for our own needs and give alms from it as well. This hadith teaches us that we should not be dependent on anyone else but rather strive to make a living through our own efforts. It also encourages us to be generous with what we have earned by giving alms or charity from our income. In this way, we can become independent individuals who are able to provide for themselves while also helping those in need around them.
