Sahih al-Bukhari 1478 (Book 24, Hadith 79) #1418
Distributing Resources with Fear of Hellfire

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) distributed resources from Zakat to a group of people, but left one person out. Sa'd (bin Abi Waqqas) asked the Prophet why he left that person out, and the Prophet replied that he was afraid that the man might renounce Islam and be thrown into Hellfire.

Narrated Sa'd (bin Abi Waqqas): Allah's Messenger distributed something (from the resources of Zakat) amongst a group of people while I was sitting amongst them, but he left a man whom I considered the best of the lot. So, I went up to Allah's Messenger and asked him secretly, "Why have you left that person? By Allah! I consider him a believer". The Prophet said, "Or merely a Muslim (Who surrender to Allah)". I remained quiet for a while but could not help repeating my question because of what I knew about him. I said, "O Allah's Apostle! Why have you left that person? By Allah! I consider him a believer". The Prophet said, "Or merely a Muslim". I remained quiet for a while but could not help repeating my question because of what I knew about him. I said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Why have you left that person? By Allah! I consider him a believer". The Prophet said, "Or merely a Muslim". Then Allah's Messenger (pbuh) said, "I give to a person while another is dearer to me, for fear that he may be thrown in the Hell-fire on his face (by reneging from Islam)".

QUICK LESSONS:
Distribute your resources fairly and equally .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how we should distribute our resources in a way that is pleasing to Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was distributing resources from Zakat to a group of people, but left one person out. When Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas asked why he had done this, the Prophet ﷺ replied that it was because he feared for this man's faith; if he were given too much wealth or power, then there was a chance that his faith would weaken and he would renounce Islam and be thrown into hellfire on his face. This teaches us an important lesson about how we should use our wealth; we must not give too much to any one person as it could lead them away from their faith in Allah SWT. We must also remember to fear Allah SWT when distributing our wealth so as not to fall into sin ourselves by giving too much or taking too little for ourselves when others are in need.
