Sahih Muslim 2796 (Book 52, Hadith 20) #14119
Seeking Forgiveness and Access to Sacred Mosque

SUMMARY: Allah will not punish people as long as they seek forgiveness and do not prevent others from coming to the sacred mosque.

Anas b. Malik reported that Abu Jahl said: O Allah, if he is true, then shower upon us the volley of stones from the sky or inflict upon us a grievous torment, and it was on this occasion that this verse was revealed:" 'Allah would never torment them so long as you are amongst them. And Allah is not going to torment them as long as they seek forgiveness. And why is it that Allah should not torment them and they prevent people from coming to the sacred mosque".. (viii. 34) to the end.

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek Forgiveness , Allow Access To Places Of Worship/Holy Sites .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Allah will not punish people if they seek forgiveness and do not prevent others from coming to the sacred mosque. Abu Jahl was asking for a punishment from Allah if what he said was true. In response to this request, Allah revealed a verse in the Quran that states that He will not punish them so long as they are seeking forgiveness and allowing access to the sacred mosque. This teaches us that we should always be seeking forgiveness for our sins and should never try to stop anyone from accessing places of worship or other holy sites. We should also remember that even though we may ask for something bad to happen if something is true or false, it does not mean that it will happen because only God knows what is best for us in any situation.
