Sahih al-Bukhari 1419 (Book 24, Hadith 23) #1363
The Superiority of Early Charity

SUMMARY: Charity given while one is healthy and not delaying it to the time of approaching death is superior in reward.

Narrated Abu Huraira: A man came to the Prophet and asked, "O Allah's Messenger ! Which charity is the most superior in reward?" He replied, "The charity which you practice while you are healthy, niggardly and afraid of poverty and wish to become wealthy. Do not delay it to the time of approaching death and then say, 'Give so much to such and such, and so much to such and such'. And it has already belonged to such and such (as it is too late)".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give generously during your lifetime
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Abu Huraira, speaks about the superiority of charity given while one is healthy and not delaying it to the time of approaching death. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ explains that when a person gives charity while they are healthy, niggardly and afraid of poverty, they will be rewarded more than if they wait until their last moments before giving away their wealth. He also warns against saying “give so much to such and such” after death as it would be too late for them to benefit from the donation. This hadith teaches us that we should give generously during our lifetime as this will bring us closer to Allah SWT and increase our rewards in Jannah. It also encourages us to think about those who are less fortunate than ourselves so that we can help them out with whatever resources we have available.
