The Benefits of Ablution

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) said that on the Day of Resurrection, his followers will be recognized by the trace of ablution and those who perform it regularly will have a greater radiance.

Narrated Nu'am Al-Mujmir: Once I went up the roof of the mosque, along with Abu Huraira. He perform ablution and said, "I heard the Prophet saying, "On the Day of Resurrection, my followers will be called "Al-Ghurr-ul- Muhajjalun" from the trace of ablution and whoever can increase the area of his radiance should do so (ie by performing ablution regularly)'. "
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلاَلٍ، عَنْ نُعَيْمٍ الْمُجْمِرِ، قَالَ رَقِيتُ مَعَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَلَى ظَهْرِ الْمَسْجِدِ، فَتَوَضَّأَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ إِنَّ أُمَّتِي يُدْعَوْنَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ غُرًّا مُحَجَّلِينَ مِنْ آثَارِ الْوُضُوءِ، فَمَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يُطِيلَ غُرَّتَهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ

EXPLANATIONS:
Ablution is an important part of Islamic practice and is highly recommended in Islam. This hadith explains the importance and benefits of performing ablution regularly. It was narrated by Nu'am Al-Mujmir that he went up to the roof of a mosque with Abu Huraira, who performed ablution. Abu Huraira then quoted the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saying that on the Day of Resurrection, his followers will be called "Al-Ghurr-ul- Muhajjalun" from the trace of their ablutions and whoever can increase their area or radiance should do so by performing it regularly. This hadith teaches us that we should perform wudu often as it has many spiritual benefits for us in this life and in our afterlife. It also shows us how important wudu is to Muslims as it can help them gain more light or noor on Judgment day when they are judged for their deeds in this world.
