Sahih Muslim 2478 (Book 44, Hadith 199) #13450
The Piety of Abdullah b Umar

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the piety of Abdullah b Umar and how his faithfulness was recognized by Allah's Apostle.

Ibn 'Umar reported: I saw in a state of sleep as if I have in my hand a piece of silk cloth and there is no place in the Paradise where I intend to reach but that piece of cloth does not fly towards it. I made a mention of it to Hafsa (the sister of Ibn 'Umar) and Hafsa made a mention of it to Allah's Apostle , whereupon Allah's Apostle said: I find 'Abdullah b 'Umar a pious person.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the faithfulness and piety of Abdullah b Umar. In a dream he saw himself holding a piece of silk cloth and it seemed to be flying towards every place in paradise that he wanted to reach. When Hafsa told this dream to Allah's Apostle he said that Abdullah b Umar was a pious person. This hadith teaches us that if we are faithful and devoted to Allah then our faith will be recognized by Him even in our dreams. It also shows us the importance of having good intentions when we do something as it can lead us closer to paradise even if it is just a dream or an intention in our hearts.
