The Use of Henna for Hair Dyeing

SUMMARY: This hadith discusses the use of henna to dye hair by Abu Bakr and Umar, and that Prophet Muhammad did not have white hair when he was alive.

Ibn Sirin reported: Anas b. Malik was asked whether Allah's Messenger dyed his hair. He said: He had not become old enough to have white hair. Ibn Idris said that he had a few white hair. Abu Bakr and Umar, however, dyed hair with Hina (henna).
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَابْنُ، نُمَيْرٍ وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ جَمِيعًا عَنِ ابْنِ إِدْرِيسَ، - قَالَ عَمْرٌو حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ الأَوْدِيُّ، - عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، قَالَ سُئِلَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ هَلْ خَضَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ رَأَى مِنَ الشَّيْبِ إِلاَّ - قَالَ ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ كَأَنَّهُ يُقَلِّلُهُ - وَقَدْ خَضَبَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ
