This hadith highlights the importance of taking medicine when one is ill. It was narrated by 'A'isha, who reported that they intended to pour medicine into the mouth of Prophet Muhammad in his illness, but he gestured that it should not be poured against his will. They understood this to mean that patients naturally have an aversion to medicines and so they should not be forced to take them. When Prophet Muhammad recovered from his illness, he said that everyone should take their medicines except for Ibn Abbas as he was not present at the time. This hadith teaches us that we must respect a patient's wishes when it comes to taking medication and also emphasizes the importance of taking medication when necessary for our health and wellbeing.
