Sahih Muslim 2154b (Book 38, Hadith 49) #12727
Respect for Companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of not being a torment to the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Talha b. Yahya with the same chain of transmitters but with this variation of wording: He (Hadrat 'Umar) said: Abu Mundhir (the Kunya of Ubayy b. Ka'b), did you hear this from Allah's Messenger ? Thereupon he said: Yes. and he further said: Ibn Khattab, do not be a torment for the Companions of Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him). No mention has, however, been made of the words of 'Umar:" Hallowed be Allah" and what follows subsequently.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect & kindness towards those who were close to our beloved prophet PBUH .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of respecting and honoring the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It was narrated by Talha b. Yahya who reported that Umar asked Ubayy b. Ka'b if he heard this from Allah's Messenger and Ubayy said yes. Umar then warned him not to be a torment for the companions of Allah's Messenger. The hadith teaches us that we should always show respect and kindness towards those who were close to our beloved prophet PBUH as they are an example for us all in terms of their faith and devotion to Islam. We should never forget their sacrifices and contributions in spreading Islam throughout Arabia during his lifetime, as well as after his death when they continued his mission with great courage and determination despite facing many hardships along the way. Furthermore, it also teaches us that we should never be harsh or unkind towards anyone regardless if they are Muslim or non-Muslim because such behavior does not reflect Islamic values which promote peace, love, mercy, justice and compassion among all people regardless of their beliefs or backgrounds.
