Sahih al-Bukhari 1316 (Book 23, Hadith 73) #1265
The Voice of the Deceased

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that when a funeral is ready and the deceased is being carried, if they were pious then they will be eager to be taken away quickly, but if not pious then they will express distress.

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: The Prophet said, "When a funeral is ready and the men carry the deceased on their necks (shoulders), if it was pious then it will say, 'Present me quickly', and if it was not pious, then it will say, 'Woe to it (me), where are they taking it (me)?' And its voice is heard by everything except mankind and if he heard it he would fall unconscious".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for righteousness in life.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that when a person passes away and their funeral procession is ready, depending on how pious or righteous their life was, the deceased will either express eagerness to be taken away quickly or distress at where they are being taken. It teaches us that our actions in this life have consequences in the afterlife and we should strive to live a righteous life so we can look forward to our journey after death. Additionally, it also teaches us that only Allah has knowledge of what happens after death as only He can hear the voice of the deceased.
