Sahih al-Bukhari 1296 (Book 23, Hadith 54) #1246
Acting with Dignity in Distress

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the innocence of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and how one should not act in a state of distress.

Narrated Abu Burda bin Abi Musa: Abu Musa got seriously ill, fainted and could not reply to his wife while he was lying with his head in her lap. When he came to his senses, he said, "I am innocent of those, of whom Allah's Messenger was innocent. Allah's Messenger is innocent of a woman who cries aloud (or slaps her face) who shaves her head and who tear off her clothes (on the falling of a calamity)

QUICK LESSONS:
Remain dignified during times of distress. Trust in Allah’s plan for you no matter what happens.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the innocence of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and how one should act with dignity even when faced with a calamity. It was narrated by Abu Burda bin Abi Musa who said that his father Abu Musa got seriously ill and fainted while he was lying with his head in his wife's lap. When he came to his senses he said "I am innocent of those whom Allah's Messenger ﷺ was innocent". The Prophet ﷺ taught us that we should not cry aloud or slap our faces or shave our heads or tear off our clothes when faced with a calamity as these are signs of distress which do not reflect well on us as Muslims. Instead we must remain dignified and trust in Allah's plan for us no matter what happens.
