Sahih Muslim 2035a (Book 36, Hadith 181) #12409
Eating Food with Care and Attention

SUMMARY: Eating food with one's hands should be done with care and attention, as blessings may be found in the food sticking to one's fingers.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger as saying: When any one of you eats food he should lick his fingers, for he does not know in what part of the food sticking to his fingers the blessing lies.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith encourages us to eat our food with care and attention. We should not rush through our meals, but instead take the time to properly enjoy them. We should also make sure that we lick our fingers after eating, as blessings may be found in the food that is stuck on them. This teaches us to appreciate all of the small things in life, as even something as simple as licking your fingers can bring about a blessing from Allah. It also reminds us of how much Allah cares for us, providing us with blessings even when we are unaware of it.

This hadith also serves as a reminder for us to practice good hygiene while eating; by licking our fingers after each meal we can ensure that they remain clean and free from germs or bacteria which could cause harm if ingested. Furthermore, this hadith encourages us to show gratitude towards Allah for all of His blessings; no matter how small they may seem at first glance, they are still gifts from Him which deserve appreciation and thanksgiving.
