Cleanliness and Blessings in Food

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us to clean our food before eating it and to wipe the dish after eating, as we do not know which part of the food contains blessings.

Anas reported that when Allah's Messenger ate food he licked his three fingers, and he said: When any one of you drops a mouthful he should remove anything filthy from it and then eat it, and should not leave it for the Satan. He also commanded us that we should wipe the dish saying: You do not know in what portion of your food the blessing lies.

QUICK LESSONS:
Lick your fingers after eating; Remove anything filthy from dropped mouthfuls; Wipe off all traces from plates/bowls; Respect for Food; Appreciation for Blessings

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us many lessons about how to live a good life. One of these lessons was about cleanliness and blessings in food. He said that when we eat, we should lick our fingers afterwards, but if any food falls on the ground then it should be removed before eating it again. This is because there may be dirt or something else on the floor that could make us sick if we ate it. He also said that after finishing a meal, we should wipe off the plate or bowl with a cloth so that no crumbs are left behind. This is because Allah has blessed us with this food and so even small pieces of it should not go to waste. Finally, he said that none of us knows which part of our meal contains Allah's blessing - so by wiping off all traces of our meal from the plate or bowl, we can ensure that nothing goes unappreciated or wasted!
