Sahih Muslim 1899 (Book 33, Hadith 208) #12018
Paradise as a Reward for Martyrdom

SUMMARY: A man asked the Prophet (PBUH) where he would be if he was killed, and the Prophet (PBUH) replied that he would be in Paradise. The man then threw away the dates he had in his hand and fought until he was killed.

It has been reported on the authority of Jabir that a man said: Messenger of Allah, where shall I be if I am killed? He replied: In Paradise. The man threw away the dates he had in his hand and fought until he was killed (i. e. he did not wait until he could finish the dates). In the version of the tradition narrated by Suwaid we have the words:" A man said to the Prophet . on the day of Uhud"..

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man who asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ where he would go if he were to die in battle. The Prophet ﷺ replied that this man would go to paradise. Upon hearing this news, the man threw away his dates and fought until his death. This hadith teaches us that martyrdom is an honorable act of sacrifice which will be rewarded with paradise in the afterlife. It also shows us how much faith this man had in Allah's promise of paradise for those who give their lives for His cause; so much so that it made him throw away something as precious as food without hesitation!
