Sahih Muslim 1850 (Book 33, Hadith 89) #11899
The Death of Ignorance

SUMMARY: One should not fight for a cause that is unjust and blindly follow someone who is doing so.

It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Abdullah al-Bajali that the Messenger of Allah said: One who is killed under the banner of a man who is blind (to his just cause), who raises the slogan of family or supports his own tribe, dies the death of one belonging to the days of Jahiliyya.

QUICK LESSONS:
Think carefully before taking action; Make sure you understand why you're taking action; Base your actions on justice rather than ignorance.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of justice and how one should not blindly follow someone who is fighting for an unjust cause. It warns us against the death of ignorance which means to die in a state where one does not understand what they are fighting for or why they are fighting. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that if someone dies while following a leader who is blind to their just cause or supports their own family or tribe without any understanding of what they are doing then it will be like dying in the days before Islam when people did not have any knowledge about right and wrong. This hadith teaches us to always think carefully before we take action and make sure that we understand why we are doing something so that our actions can be based on justice rather than ignorance.
