Expiation for Broken Vows and Oaths

SUMMARY: The expiation of a broken vow is the same as that of a broken oath.

'Uqba. b. Amir reported Allah's Messenger as saying: The expiation of the (breach of) a vow is the same as that of the (breach of an oath).

QUICK LESSONS:
Make promises with intention to fulfill them; Do good deeds in repentance; Ask forgiveness from Allah after breaking vows/oaths
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that the expiation for breaking a vow or an oath is the same. A vow is when someone makes a promise to Allah, while an oath is when someone makes a promise to another person. In either case, if one breaks their promise, they must make up for it by doing something good in order to be forgiven by Allah. This could include giving charity or fasting for several days in repentance. It's important to remember that we should always strive to keep our promises and not break them lightly, as this can have serious consequences both spiritually and socially.
