Sahih Muslim 1611 (Book 22, Hadith 175) #11248
The Punishment for Unlawful Land Acquisition

SUMMARY: Taking land without a legitimate right is wrong and will be punished on the Day of Resurrection.

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him) as saying: One should not take a span of land without having legitimate right to it, otherwise Allah would make him wear (around his neck) seven earths on the Day of Resurrection.

QUICK LESSONS:
Do not take something which does not belong to you even if it is just a small piece of land. Follow Allah's commands and strive to do what is right so you can be rewarded in the afterlife instead of being punished.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the consequences of taking land without having a legitimate right to it. According to this hadith, Allah will punish those who take land unlawfully by making them wear seven earths around their neck on the Day of Resurrection. This means that they will have to carry a heavy burden as punishment for their wrong-doing. It teaches us that we should not take something that does not belong to us, even if it is just a small piece of land, because Allah knows what we do and He will hold us accountable for our actions in the hereafter. We should always strive to do what is right and follow Allah's commands so that we can be rewarded in the afterlife instead of being punished.
