Sahih Muslim 1536s (Book 21, Hadith 123) #11049
Cultivating Land and Sharing its Benefits

SUMMARY: Allah's Messenger ﷺ advised that those who own land should cultivate it or let someone else cultivate it, otherwise they should leave it.

Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported: We used to cultivate land on rent during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle and we got a share out of the grain left in the ears after threshing them and something unspecified. Allah's Messenger said: He who has land should cultivate it or let his brother till it, otherwise he should leave it.

Owning a piece of land? Use or rent out for cultivation.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of cultivating land and sharing its benefits. Allah's Messenger advised that those who own land should cultivate it or let someone else cultivate it, otherwise they should leave it. This means that if you have a piece of land, you can either use the land yourself to grow crops or rent out the land to someone else so they can use the land for cultivation and in return you will get a share from whatever is produced from the cultivated land. This hadith teaches us to be responsible with our resources and make sure we are using them in an effective way while also being generous with others by sharing what we have been blessed with.
