Sahih Muslim 1536r (Book 21, Hadith 122) #11048
Cultivating and Renting Land

SUMMARY: It is better to cultivate land or rent it out than to sell it.

Jabir b. Abdullah (Allah be pleased with them) heard Allah's Messenger say: He who has surplus of land should either cultivate it himself, or let his brother cultivate it, an should not sell it. I (the narrator) said to Sa'id: What does his statement" do not sell it" mean? Does it imply" rent"? He said: Yes.

QUICK LESSONS:
Cultivate your surplus lands or rent them out instead of selling them .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith encourages people to cultivate their land or rent it out instead of selling it. This is because cultivating the land can be beneficial for the owner in terms of providing food and income, while renting can also provide a steady source of income without having to give up ownership of the land. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was encouraging people to make use of their resources in a way that would benefit them and others around them, rather than just selling off their assets for a one-time gain.

This hadith also teaches us about being generous with our resources and helping those who are less fortunate than us by giving them access to our resources so they too can benefit from them. By renting out our land, we are able to help others while still maintaining ownership over our property.
