Sahih Muslim 1536e (Book 21, Hadith 109) #11036
Prohibitions on Transactions

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the prohibition of certain types of transactions and exceptions to them.

Jabir b. 'Abdullah (Allah be pleased with them) reported that Allah's Messenger forbade Mukhabara and Muhaqala, and Muzabana, and the sale of the fruit until it is fit for eating, and its sale but with dirham and dinar. Exception is made in case of 'araya. Ata' said: Jabir explained (these terms) for us. As for Mukhabara it is this that a wasteland is given by a person to another and he makes an investment in it and then gets a share in the produce. According to him (Jabir), Muzabana is the sell of fresh dates on the tree for dry dates with a measure, and Muhaqala in agriculture implies that one should sell the standing crop for grains with a measure.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be careful with your transactions and make sure that they are done fairly without any exploitation or manipulation from either side involved in the transaction process .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the prohibitions on certain types of transactions, such as Mukhabara, Muhaqala, and Muzabana. Mukhabara is when a person gives a wasteland to another person who then invests in it and gets a share in the produce. Muzabana is when fresh dates are sold for dry dates with a measure. Muhaqala is when standing crops are sold for grains with a measure. An exception was made for 'araya which was not explained by Jabir b.'Abdullah but could be referring to an exchange between two people where one gives something of lesser value than what they receive in return. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful with our transactions and make sure that they are done fairly and without any exploitation or manipulation from either side involved in the transaction process.
