Sahih al-Bukhari 1127 (Book 19, Hadith 7) #1086
The Importance of Praying at Night

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of praying at night and how man is more quarrelsome than anything else.

Narrated 'Ali bin Abi Talib: One night Allah's Messenger came to me and Fatima, the daughter of the Prophet and asked, "Won't you pray (at night)?" I said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Our souls are in the hands of Allah and if He wants us to get up He will make us get up". When I said that, he left us without saying anything and I heard that he was hitting his thigh and saying, "But man is more quarrelsome than anything". (18:54)

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray at night when called upon by Allah .

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith narrated by Ali bin Abi Talib, Allah's Messenger asked him and his daughter Fatima why they weren't praying at night. When Ali replied that their souls were in Allah's hands and He would make them get up if He wanted to, the Prophet left without saying anything but was heard hitting his thigh and saying "But man is more quarrelsome than anything". This hadith teaches us the importance of prayer at night as well as how humans are more prone to being quarrelsome than any other creature. It also reminds us that our souls are in Allah's hands so we should always be ready to pray when He calls us. We should also strive to control our tempers and not be too quick to argue with others.
