QUICK LESSONS:
Maintain fairness and justice when dealing with others
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of a practice called Shighar. It was narrated by Ibn Umar, who was one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad. According to this hadith, Prophet Muhammad forbade the practice of exchanging marriage partners without any payment or compensation in return. This means that if two families wanted to marry their children off to each other, they could not do so without giving something in return for it such as money or goods. This is because such an exchange would be unfair and unjust and would lead to inequality between the two families involved. The lesson from this hadith is that fairness and justice should always be maintained when dealing with others, even when it comes to marriage arrangements between families.
