Sahih Muslim 1413a (Book 16, Hadith 61) #10596
Forbidden Business Practices

SUMMARY: It is forbidden to outbid another in a sale, make a proposal of marriage when someone else has already done so, or enter into a transaction when someone else has already done so. It is also forbidden for a woman to ask for her sister's divorce in order to deprive her of what belongs to her.

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Apostle as having forbidden a dweller of the town selling the merchandise of a villager or outbidding in a sale (in order that another might fall into a snare), or a person making the proposal of marriage when his brother has already made such a proposal, or entering into a transaction when his brother has already entered; and a woman asking the divorce of her sister in order to deprive her of what belongs to her'.Amr made this addition: " The person should not purchase in opposition to his brother".

QUICK LESSONS:
Act with integrity and fairness towards others even if it means sacrificing your own interests at times

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about certain business practices that are forbidden in Islam. These include outbidding another person in a sale, making proposals of marriage when someone else has already done so, entering into transactions when someone else has already done so and asking for the divorce of one's sister in order to deprive her of what belongs to her. All these practices are considered unethical and should be avoided as they can lead people into difficult situations and cause harm or distress. The Prophet Muhammad also taught us that we should not purchase something if our brother has already purchased it as this could lead him into financial difficulty or hardship. We must always act with integrity and fairness towards others even if it means sacrificing our own interests at times.
