Sahih Muslim 1226e (Book 15, Hadith 185) #10120
Combining Hajj and Umra

SUMMARY: The hadith is about combining Hajj and Umra, which was done by the Prophet (ﷺ) and not forbidden by him. Umar's opinion on this matter was his own personal opinion.

Mutarrif reported: 'Imran b. Husain sent for me during his illness of which he died, and said: I am narrating to you some ahadith which may benefit you after me. If I live you conceal (the fact that these have been transmitted by me), and if I die, then you narrate them if you like (and these are): I am blessed, and bear in mind that the Messenger of Allah combined Hajj and Umra. Then no verse was revealed in regard to it in the Book of Allah (which abrogated it) and the Messenger of Allah did not forbid (from doing it). And whatever a person (, Umar) said was out of his personal opinion.

QUICK LESSONS:
Refer back to Islamic teachings before making any decisions for ourselves

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the combination of Hajj and Umra, which is a practice that was done by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ but not forbidden by him. Umar's opinion on this matter was his own personal opinion, meaning it did not come from Allah or His Messenger ﷺ. This hadith teaches us to be careful when making decisions in our lives as we should always refer back to what Allah has said in His Book or what His Messenger has said before making any decisions for ourselves. We should also be aware that other people’s opinions are just their own personal opinions and may not necessarily be correct or true according to Islamic teachings.
