Compensation for Head Ailments

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Ka'b b. Ujra, who was suffering from a head ailment and the Prophet (PBUH) advised him to do compensation by fasting, giving sadaqa or sacrificing an animal.

Kalb b. Ujra (Allah be pleased with him) reported: It was I for whom this verse was revealed (to the Holy Prophet):" Whoever among you is sick or has an ail- ment of the head, he (may effect) a compensation by lasting or alms or a sacrifice" He said: I came to him (the Holy Prophet) and he said: Come Dear. So I went near. He (again) said: Come near. So I went near. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah said: Do the vermins trouble you? Ibn Aun (one of the narrators) said: I think he (Ka'b b. Ujra) replied in the affirmative. He (the Holy Prophet) then commanded to do compensation by fasting or by giving sadaqa (feeding six needy persons) or by sacrifice (of a animal) that is available.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about Ka'b b. Ujra, who was suffering from a head ailment and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ advised him to do compensation by fasting, giving sadaqa or sacrificing an animal as a form of atonement for his illness. Fasting means abstaining from food and drink during certain hours of the day while sadaqa is charity given to those in need such as money or food items. Sacrifice refers to offering an animal such as a goat or sheep in order to seek forgiveness from Allah SWT for one's sins and ailments. This hadith teaches us that when we are faced with difficulties due to our own actions, we should seek repentance through acts of worship such as fasting, charity and sacrifice in order to receive Allah's mercy and forgiveness. It also encourages us not only to take responsibility for our own actions but also help those less fortunate than ourselves through acts of kindness like donating money or food items so that they can benefit too.
