The World Does Need a Dictator!

"We sent you not, but as a Mercy to the Worlds. (21:107)".

He is not a Hitler or a Mussolini, a Pinochet or a Franco, a Stalin or a Saddam. In fact, he was an anti-thesis to the concept of dictatorship yet everyone, Muslims and non-Muslims who understand his message, passionately wish him to rule the world!

The Creator bestowed upon him the title, "Mercy for all Creatures". Muslims believe in him as the epitome of humanity and the ultimate role model.  Non-Muslims, such as the famous French Author Lamartine affirms: "As regards to all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?"

However, it is still not the physical "he" of this great man that attracted the admiration and respect of humanity, for he himself forbade his companions to draw his portrait, make a statue out of him, or equate his actions and sayings with the Divine revelation. He even instructed never to glorify him but instead to refer to him as "Servant and Messenger of God". But he did ask of his admirers to follow the legacy he left behind to be merciful and establish peace and justice for all as that is "the" purpose of our creation.

Islam is not a religion revealed to the inhabitants of a certain geographical area, race, color, caste or class. It is the Universal Constitution, and the ideal way of life for the entire humanity. Those who choose to live by it will prevail. Those who deny will have to plead their case to the Creator. But will those who believe and accept the Message of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him) ever be able to defend themselves on the Day of Judgment for not conveying the message to mankind?

In 1936 George Bernard Shaw wrote in his book, "Genuine of Islam": "I have always held the religion of Muhammad in high estimation because of its wonderful vitality. It is the only religion, which appears to me to possess that assimilating capacity to the changing phase of existence, which can appeal to every age. I have studied him (Muhammad) - the wonderful man and in my opinion far from being an anti-Christ, he must be called the Savior of Humanity. I believe that if a man like him were to assume the DICTATORSHIP of the modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring the much needed peace and happiness: I have prophesied about the faith of Muhammad that it would be acceptable to the Europe of tomorrow as it is beginning to be acceptable to the Europe of today."

Muslims and non-Muslims who are blessed with wisdom, understanding and leadership must, look unto the life of the Prophet for the sake of the all Humanity. Else, humanity may see them as nothing more than silent milestones unlike Him who is remembered, admired and respected even more each day by all.

O Allah, help us understand the purpose of our being. O Allah, bless us with the strength to pursue the mission of the Prophet Muhammad. O Allah, empower us to actively participate in the struggle of establishing peace and justice, as he did. O Allah, we ask no one but You to help so please help us, Ya Rabb.

Though your sketch of the Prophet(PBUH) is excellent, your prayers at the end surprised me.

You are asking for empowerment to actively participate in the struggle for the establishment of peace and justice! What do you think the Book of Allah, Al-Quraan al-hakim, came down for? This is the book of empowerment. It is lying with us, at every home for the last 1400 hundred years. We read it invariably, but without understanding it, again invariably. If only, if only, oh if only Muslims can understand and pursue the Book, there would be peace and justice all over the Earth. But we do not. Except wailing, except reciting long and winding supplications, we do nothing. The Prophet, acted. We do not act. We expect everything to descend upon us directly from the heavens.

There are many problems, humankind to-day faces. Fundamental problems. Problems of food, water, energy, pollution, transport and a host of others. What has been our contribution in the attempts everybody else is making in this regard. Take for instance, the Earth Summit? What is Muslim contribution to the predictions/projections and efforts to ameliorate the situation. Muslims should be surprised to know, inlcuding the great ulema of the past and the present, that the fears of the Earth Summit are exhaustively, very clearly and very succinctly sketched in the Book of Allah, not since 1992 when the first Earth Summit was organised, but since 682 AD! When Science was a big zero.

It was our duty, dear Brothers, to propound the warnings in the Book to the humankind. I wonder, how many of us know the verses that hold the warnings. When we ourselves do not know, how do we tell it to others? That is a pity. It was our duty to explore these warnings, suggest solutions to present and projected real-time dangers, and then recite these verses before the mankind. We miserably fail in our duties, but wail enormously or go berserk killing others for land and buildings?!!!

Respected Sir,

Assalam Walaikum,
I have read your article "The World Does Need A Dictator". In this chaotic period, for not a single country but the whole world need a dictator but definitely not like Hitler or Mussolini type leader but very true like Muhammad (saw). But he was one of the only ruler who not only preach others for equality in every aspect of life but also set an example with himself. Hazrat Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) asked people to shun notions of racial, family or any other form of superiority based on mundane things and said that righteousness alone was the criterion of one's superiority over another. . However, in today's world we seems that most of the leader think only them and in this extension they do pressurize to their neighbor country to do whatever they like. However, in this exercise, they overlook the repercussion because of their stubborn attitude. We all can easily understand it through some of the countries that called civilized, progressive and democratic but in my opinion, they even don't know the proper meaning of democracy. You are quite right if some one has wisdom than try to understand the life of prophet and to know the true meaning of leadership. The prophet's leadership can understand by this hadees:
It was narrated that al-Nu'maan ibn Basheer said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The believers, in their mutual mercy, love and compassion, are like a (single) body; if one part of it feels pain, the rest of the body will join it in staying awake and suffering fever." Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5665; Muslim, 2586.
In last, i would like to thank you for this article and i like the prayer too.
May ALLAH bless us with beneficial knowledge, righteous deeds, humble hearts and answered prayers.
ALLAAH HAFIZ.

I would like it very much that when there is mention of tyrants of the world, if you would include many US Presidents that have stood for the brutalization of Natives (my people) here over the last 500 years.

The US is not a democractic nor a free country and it resrvation system which iis still intact is ample testimony to the kind of system that really exists here in this country.

Its an injustice for the rest of the world communities to see this country (US) as fair and balanced when it is not.

The world commuunity tooo has a prejudical view of Natives here and the western movies--"cowboys and Indians"--that have been reported back to me by Muslims and others, are just a small example of this kind of inaccuracy being prepetrated against my people towards the world communities.

KARIEM ABDUL HAQQ FROM USA said:
I disagree. The world does not need a dictator! Allah gave mankind free will and He created us as individuals with freedom to think and choose for ourselves. Not for anyone to control our minds. We were not created as robots or clones of anyone. We are not some collective homogeneous entiy made for the purpose for someone to manuever and control at their will. One of the problems with the Islamic world today is that nearly every nation has a dictator. A world dictator would be no different. The people would lose their freedom to think for themselves and their progress and prosperity would become stagnant. We need guidance but no dictatorship. Prophet (PBUH) is an excellent "example" not someone we have to try to be exactly alike. If we did that I feel we would go against the will of Allah who made us as individuals with diverse potentials, characteristics, cultures, colors, shapes and forms, etc. Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) was not to govern over our affairs. This dictator kind of thinking seems to come from Arab propaganda. Some of them feel they are Allah's chosen race and that they should rule and dictate to the world. But the only material gains that they have made is due to the West showing them how to get it. Humanity is the Khalifah not one man. We have the Holy Quran, the Sunnah of the Prophet(s) and the laws of the universe to draw knowledge and to apply it for our benefit. The Laws of the Universe should not be neglected, but most and I mean most of the religious "Scholars" have not a clue about them. Especially in the field of government and economics. They think they know but they do not. They have very elementary and simplistic "solutions". Most prove to be erroneous, conterproductive and go against the human nature and the laws of the universe. It takes all the good minds of the human race to contribute to prosperity and peace, sometimes working independedly without someone else telling them when, what. where, how, why, etc.

AsSalaamu Alaykum,

Very beautiful, mashallah article...With all the bitterness, hatred, bigotry, etc in the media as well as in the world connected with the religion of Allah which is Islam, Still I believe and yet millions upon millions of others still believe and practice our religion. We are constantly working, praying and hoping inshallah for a brighter tomorrow as well as today. True believers in Allah are not terrorists, bigots, fascists, etc. We should never fret to realize that most of the Prophets of Allah (Peace Be Upon Them) are from the East**If we As humanity would truly value human life, decency, family, righteousness, etc then in our world as we know it we would value this from the people of the middle east and the world and not just look at them as being a natural resource that we can just drill and take whenever, whatever and however we want.-whether its the oil from Saudi, Kuwait, or Iraq or the diamonds from the diamond mines in parts of Africa. The truth of the matter is this-People of the world do not hate us in the US, but rather they despise the cruelty of our government going in and draining the resources from within countries which these countries need in order to survive;protecting our own political interest at all costs. This war on Terrorism is a war from within and well as from without. How strange is it that most of the countries that have had recent terrorist attacks were not on our president's agenda as an ally in his war against Iraq..Why would criminals Such as Mr. Muhammad(Gulf War Vet) and as called his stepson be driving around with evidence in their car?Why would terrorists leave an arabic flight manual in a car to be found?-Most Pilot tests will be given in English anyway??Why no airports pictures of the other highjackers???If our leadership, CIA, military knew of a possible tragic event, why wasn't it stopped? This is all part of a bigger picture...NEW WORLD ORDER ...Peace Be Unto You and All Who Strive for Peace.

YEA. FOR YOU IT'S OK. That is why the Priests around the world have been molesting the young boys and girls and women, committing lot of indecent acts. Anyway they have their sins nullified by the Crufixion (Crucifiction?) of Jesus, so now who cares if they did most heinous crimes?
And also the actions of America and European countries against muslims are all pardoned well in advance due to the crucifixion of Jesus and they can now drop atom bombs on anyone.
O.K., O.K. When the angel of death visits them, they will come to know what it means by real salvation, real truth, Islam etc. Stay in your cave until then...
Best of luck.

It is BEYOND WRONG to say that Mohammad is a far greater man than Jesus or Moses. I am a Christian, but I just wanted to learn about Islam. Comments like those make me not appreciate the religion because I feel that no one should "put down" another one's beliefs. In order for people to pass on the word, it must be done in a tasteful way...and that was far beyond tasteful. It CANNOTfor me to respect anyone that will not respect my religion. I am not saying that anyone is better than anyone, because I believe that ALL it takes is to believe in yourself and your religion rather than worrying about who is going to be able to face their creator in the end. Who are you to make that judgement? You Can't!

Islam is far from being a dictatorship as Aallah still gives rights and freedoms to all people.

There are some things that Islam can improve upon too like teaching healthy boundaries, good communication skills, effective conflict resolution skills and ensuring everyone under their care recieves a free education and medical attention.

I have spoken with some black folk and I was surprised they think Christianity, Islam and Judaism are made up by white folks to oppress black folk.

This is a sad commentary about upholding a mere man to an elevated position which no man should be on. Islam has taken over many a country and ruined it. Men, women, and children cry out for freedom in places like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, and many other places Islamic law has been inacted. Jesus said my kingdom is not of this world and those who follow Him should not make this world there home. To do so is to make the same mistakes all religions have made and thus wars break out to claim land as there own. Our dictator is God alone and He has manifested Himself perfectly in His unique Son who every knee will bow to in heaven and earth, including Mohammed, the messenger of 7th century Islam.

The Islamic nations are home to the most deceitful, hypocritical, pridefully ignorant, and viciously aggressive collection of deluded peoples in history. CRISSY FROM USA said:
The author and Mr. Shaw sound dangerously close to deifying Mohammed (pbuh). Mohammed could never be a dictator because he is simply a messenger of Allah. Allah controls all of creation and did not appoint Mohammed to rule over the Earth, rather chose him to be the means by which Allah reveals the Qur'an.

As the messenger of Allah, Mohammed was an imam and spiritual leader. However, by the wonderful wisdom of Allah, every person possesses free will. A dictator implies absolute dominion over his subjects. Therefore, Mohammed could never have been a dictator.

Nor is Mohammed "the savior of humanity." Allah alone has the power to decide who will be saved and who will be thrown into hellfire. As a former Christian, I have heard this title used many times in reference to Jesus (pbuh). The words of the Qur'an were composed by and belong to Allah. Mohammed only heard these rules and delivered them to humanity.

My intention is not to discount the phenomenal contribution made by Mohammed. I only want to set the record straight that Mohammed could never have been a dictator, nor could he be the savior of humanity.

If anyone has any comments about my message, please bring them to my attention. I am only human, and my faults are many. Thank you.

His life and his actions proved that we could change the world by showing the right path to humanity. Today, when the whole world faces a greater danger in one way or the other, Muslims needs to see how far they have come from his teachings and non-muslims needs to study the true islam and its teaching. I read with interest the article titled 'The World Does Need a Dictator!' Dictator is a tyrant who rules with absolute authority and if you don't like it you are doomed. Is this what you want Muhammad to be?
Our Heavenly Father does not rule humanity like a dictator. He gave us free will to choose to love Him (also to love all, even our enimies) or reject Him. God our Creator loves us all unconditionally. In John 3:16-18 says "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."
In John 14:6 Jesus says "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Only through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior can there be true peace in our lives when we accept Him.

Editor/IslamiCity:

Salamun `alaykum! IslamiCity's article--Issue 35, "The World Does Need a Dictator," is a bankrupt idea, an exercise in futility, and a work of feeble minds!

Moreover, the premise of 'prophetic dictatorship' is not only ludicrous, but it stereotypes Muslims as a people and as nations. This silly presentation also tells me that you people up there have nothing constructive to do; so you think up "nonsense scenarios," which impress no one but yourselves.

The idea of the Prophet being a 'world dictator' may appear to be tempting and romantic to the weak minds and feeble minds making this suggestion. In doing so, however, you belittle the noble status of the Messenger (pbuh), who was commissioned to carryout a spiritual mission, of a unique and unparalleled purpose, by bringing to fruition the last Divine Dispensation to all mankind, a task he successfully completed in 23 short years, and the world has never been the same since! Never in the history of homo sapiens has one, simple man produced so much, in such a short time, for so many....!

So, instead of thinking up ways how the deceased Prophet can redeem and restore a world filled with chaos and turmoil, you should be "researching and documenting" the "Madina Experiment," which exemplified the Prophet's diplomatic, management, administrative, and military skills and proficiencies, outside his designated religious mission.

After you compile the results of your research, I suggest that you distribute them to the petty "tyrants and dictators," who now "pretend to govern" the many Muslim nations around the world.

Let them learn from the actual sunnah of the Messenger!

This is my humble recommendation to you nice people of IslamiCity.com.

Overall, I admire your incredible good work! Al Hamdulillah!

If you believe that your religion (any religion) is the best you would like others to follow the same.. its selfishness to follow what you call the right path and let others be unaware of it (applicable to any religion). (2) Its not the religion that brings misery to world but the incorrect implementation of it. One should not look at Crusades as part of Christianity.. right? (3) Killing is justifiable under certain circumstances. Again.. the emphasis is on JUSTICE. Was not the Oklahoma bombing person killed? Would it be justice not to kill him? (4) and last but not the least (since this can go on forever)- Australia can be as careful and attentive as it can be - but for what?? it is strategically located where it has no bordering countries which even endanger its sovereignty unlike most of the muslim countries which have to defend themselves all the time. It does not (correctly) interferes with world politics much.

Sister Rachel, Catholics have more in common with Muslims than with Protestants. Purgatory (Chastisement) is considered a complete fiction among Protestants (just ask them). Hell (the Fire) is usually not taken seriously by Protestants (just ask them). Protestants generally believe they are guaranteed salvation - so what would be the point of such negative concepts?

Members of the Protestant clergy (always!) told me that Christians are guaranteed admission to Heaven - it's Christ's gift to them (just ask a Protestant). Please note that I have yet to encounter a Muslim who suffered from any such delusions.

Now that I'm a Muslim, I kneel before God - do you? Now that I'm a Muslim, I believe I will be held accountable for my deeds and intentions - do you?

Before you reject Islam, would you please consider taking a different approach (then it sounds like you've taken so far)? Please base your research first on the Quran and secondly on the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). What you find posted at websites - expressed by individuals (such as myself) - should be ranked far, far below those first two sources.

Also, know that I can't turn my back on Jesus (peace be upon him) any more than you could do successfully, as a devout Catholic. Whether you choose to believe it or not, becoming a Muslim has never-the-less made me five times a better Christian.

I had previously only heard a handful of things about Muslims (all lies). Then, I started meeting Muslims for myself and thought they were nothing like the stories I heard. So I started to read the Quran at a bookstore (to learn more about Muslims' religion) and embraced Islam before reaching the checkout stand.

Please don't reject Islam due to the statements of zealots who would enjoy attempting to convert the world by the sword. May you be guided by the Holy Spirit (I don't know how else to say it). May peace and blessing be yours always.

God is alone worthy of worship,<

To Rachel

One of the British historian, Karen Armstrong, a former nun and a renowned expert on Middle East history. In her book, Holy War, in which she examines the history of the three great divine religions, she comments:

The word Islam comes from the same Arabic root as the word peace and the Koran condemns war as an abnormal state of affairs opposed to God's will: "When the enemies of the Muslims kindle a fire for war, Allah extinguishes it. They strive to create disorder in earth, and Allah loves not those who create disorder." (Koran 28:78). Islam does not justify a total aggressive war or extermination, as the Torah does in the first five books of the Bible. A more realistic religion than Christianity, Islam recognizes that war is inevitable and sometimes a positive duty in order to and oppressions and suffering. The Koran teaches that war must be limited and be conducted in as humane a way of possible. Mohammed had to fight not only the Meccans but also the Jewish tribes in the area and Christian tribes in Syria who planned on offensive against him in alliance with the Jews. Yet this did not make Mohammed denounce the People of the Book. His Muslims were forced to defend themselves but they were not fighting a holy war against the religion of their enemies. When Mohammed sent his freedman Zaid against the Christians at the head of a Muslim army, he told them to fight in the cause of God bravely but humanely. They must not molest priests, monks and nuns nor the weak and helpless people who were unable to fight. There must be no massacre of civilians nor should they cut down a single tree nor pull down any building. This was very different from the wars of Joshua.

This is in response to Rachael. Stop acting irrational. Firstly the religion (way of life) of your country as understood by Islam, which is an ideology, is not christianity but is Capitalism. Islam has divine injunctions which can accomodate both and provide the practical solutions.
The following are quotes from an interesting article that highlight the ideological nature of a state:

A CIA instruction manual entitled "Psychological Operations in Guerrilla Warfare".
Written in the early 1980s (coincidentally, soon after Bush Sr. headed the Agency) the document was part of the US government's crusade to bring down Nicaragua's leftist government, by providing training and weapons to the Contra rebels. Detailing how to gain a community's support through propaganda and selective violence, the manual begins "In effect, the human being should be considered the priority objective in a political war ...Once his mind has been reached, the 'political animal' has been defeated, without necessarily receiving bullets."

The following are quotes from the original psyop textbook, along with contemporary examples-
PSYOP quote: "It is appropriate ... to guide the discussion of a group to cover a number of points and to reach a correct conclusion." The people "should 'feel' it was their free and own decision."

So we can snippets from this that capitalism is based on a thought and that it wishes to indoctrinate that thought for a particular agenda or interest.

Islam has a thought and viewpoint about life and societal interactions too, including war (jihad). Uunlike the west the thought is not triggered through social or mental conditioning like dogs or brainwashing of the masses. It is based upon subservience to Allah (swt) who's existence and message requires acceptance thro proof and awakening in the individual. Thus Allah(swt) says in the quran (translation of meaning):
We (Allah) shall throw the truth agaist the falsehood and veily the truth will knock o

It also concerns me greatly that you say that if Muhammad were here he would bring "much needed peace and happiness" - but your religion has brought nothing but misery and horror to thousands of lives. It is not a religion of love, mercy and compassion, but one based on force, power, domination, violence and fear. Your site says "we need to be remembered, admired, and respected even more..." for what? For trying to convert the whole world?
And this prayer which asks "Allah" to give all Muslims the "strength to pursue the mission of Muhammad" and to "establish peace and justice" - what is the mission of Muhammad and what on earth is your meaning of peace and justice?

Assalamualaikum,
It is a grave mistake to insinuate that the Prophet Muhammad (saw) was a dictator as does the title of this passage. The Imamate of the Prophet(saw) just as in the representation of the Khaleefah, cannot be considered a dictatorship as they are not ruling by their own whims and desires. They only represent and impliment the laws of Allah (swt) on the people.
Neither does Islam leave muslims to simply follow in the example of contemporary rulers. The actions of the Sahabi after the death of the Prophet(saw) instructed the muslim world to give Bay'ah to a Khaleefah. A Khaleefah is the single leader for all the muslims and there were many instructions by the prophet for there not to be two or more.
Muslim reported that the Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

'He who pledged allegiance to an Imam giving him the clasp of his hand and the fruit of his heart shall obey him as long as he can, and if another comes to dispute with him you have to strike the neck of that man'

Again the fact that there can only be a single leader for the muslims, does not make the ruling a dictatorship or an autocratic one. The distinction being that the leader impliments a body of law that does not emenate from his mind or even a collection of minds. Furthermore there are injunctions from the prophet (saw) for the leader to be removed by the council of representatives if he commited a flagrant sin.
On the contrary however, all the leaders of today are dictators as they rule by the arogance of man made laws. It is well known that opinion polls are manipulated or swayed in one way or another in the systems of so called Democracy. Either the rulers are set there after invasions or wars or there aren't other parties to challenge the existing 'order' or the majority haven't the confidence in their leaders to vote or don't care about politics. So they dictate to a people who couldn't care less and don't have the confidence for there to be an alternative.

Salamu Alaikum,

That was a well said prayer at the end of the writeup. And we all say AMEEN to it.

Islamicity is doing a wonderful job to Islam. However I want this effort not to be one-sided(i.e to the non-believers reverting to Islam) but let the effort be 25-75. 75% to the already so called "Muslims" of today.

You see, the fact of the matter is that the Dictator to emulate the Prophet as George Barnard Shaw prophesized, is almost impossible to emerge with the present generation of Muslims we have, who knowingly or ortherwise have sold out their Islam to the Ahlil-Kitab. This you will agree with me is a disaster which the repercussions is known to me and you. In fact, it is manifesting itself now with the US led assault on Islamic states. And the irony is that nobody seems to see anything wrong with that, not even the Saudis(so called custodians of the two holy mosques. Israel has annexed Masji-al-aqsa for thirty years now, also no Muslim is saying anything about that. All we hear is Palestine, Palestine. SAVE PALESTINIANS! Brother it is Msjid Al-aqsa we should be talking of saving, that and only that can bring about emancipation of the Palestenians. After all Allah does'nt need us but he needs and would save his DEEN. I hope I am making any sense!

Bissalam.

SAIF FROM ENGLAND said:
Assalamualaikum,

A look at the life of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) would be incomplete without the realisation that it culminated in the formation of the First Islamic State in Medina. An event so important to the muslims of the time that they marked the Islamic Calendar from that date. This event would also seal their fate for all time.
However in todays world the muslims can't even decide on the phases of the moon in unity to know the month of Ramadhan. We have been left in religious, intellectual and technological darkness through division into many western backed nations and statelets. Furthermore muslims have been 'given' pride and greatness in those nations and states in complete contradiction to the sayings of the Prophet (saw) who hated Assabiyah (nationalism).
Moving on to the time shortly after the death of the Prophet(saw), would reveal that the sahaba, faced with impending crises and collapse of governance actually stopped everything (even to burying the Prophet (saw)) to elect a new leader. The Khalifa. Their concensus on this matter abiding by shariah, allows a period of 3 days and 2 nights for muslims to be without a bay'ah (oath of allegiance) to a Khalifah, upon their necks as often quoted. 'Upon their necks' signifies the weight of the obligation, as muslims are collectively sinful if they don't work in a group to complete this task following the method of the Prophet (saw) to accomplich it.
The muslims need to be more optimistic in their affairs as there are many muslims today who can take on this challenging role. This is possible if muslims really feel the weight of the burden of responsibility and leave their arogance and wish to absolve themselvs of the sin of dying in Jahiliyah. The only thing left then is the Nusrah (the support from the people of authority). Collectively, the muslims have an army that can easily remove American occupation from our lands. Only the false borders remain.
