The Gate Yields

By: Salah Dandan   July 20, 2026

At the gate of the fortress, yet again, I wait. Peril lurks, and only here, shelter I seek.

The key is His name, whispered in awe. Beautified with mercy, bestowed and inherent.

The gate yields.

My heart too, gasping: Glorious is He, Lord of this fortress and kingdoms vast, yet reared me from nothingness,

a short distance traveled, between beginning and end. Spiraling stairways present, and mirror the turmoil within.

Echoing assurances of compassion and mercy keep my heart from piercing through my throat.

I trip on roots of errant thoughts, I cultivated. Keep steady; ascend.

The Owner of this fortress, must also be its King. To Him I flee. Help me. Hide me from Thee!

His judgement reigns supreme, today and tomorrow. A reckoning complete, with witnesses, whose tongues do not speak.

Another audience, I plead. Seven signs and six of His Names point towards Him.

Admitted to the inner sanctuary, dazzled by the Light, sole devotion I declare. Of others benefitting me, I confess my despair.

"A wayfarer who is lost, show me the way! Choice companions appoint for me, lest I stumble or stray. Of those who would estrange me from You, shield me, I pray."
