However knowledgeable one might be, his knowledge does not bring about truthfulness, honesty and trustworthiness. Also, it does not eradicate untruthfulness, dishonesty and untrustworthiness. Bashar Al Assad and Vladimir Putin are very knowledgeable in their fields but they are, evidently, ill-intentioned men. The brothers of Yusuf did what they did to him though they were prophets. Therefore scholars can also do like evils. But prophets are teachers, as Al Ghazali says.

Therefore do not always rely on what Mufti so and so says, or whatever fatwa is being given. These may write books with the complicity of governments. If it is the case they will easily write extremist knowledge. Take care to re-consider.

I recently watched a program on how Hitler got some of the best known scholars to re-write the history of the Aryan people so that it suited, and in the end served, his own, evil, purposes.
Yes, people who hold power can control people to say anything they want said.
