By those ˹angels˺ lined up in ranks,   37:1
and those who diligently drive ˹the clouds˺,   37:2
and those who recite the Reminder!   37:3
Surely your God is One!   37:4
˹He is˺ the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between, and the Lord of all points of sunrise.   37:5
Indeed, We have adorned the lowest heaven with the stars for decoration   37:6
and ˹for˺ protection from every rebellious devil.   37:7
They cannot listen to the highest assembly ˹of angels˺ for they are pelted from every side,   37:8
˹fiercely˺ driven away. And they will suffer an everlasting torment.   37:9
But whoever manages to stealthily eavesdrop is ˹instantly˺ pursued by a piercing flare.   37:10
So ask them ˹O Prophet˺, which is harder to create: them or other marvels of Our creation? Indeed, We created them from a sticky clay.   37:11
In fact, you are astonished ˹by their denial˺, while they ridicule ˹you˺.   37:12
When they are reminded, they are never mindful.   37:13
And whenever they see a sign, they make fun of it,   37:14
saying, “This is nothing but pure magic.   37:15
When we are dead and reduced to dust and bones, will we really be resurrected?   37:16
And our forefathers as well?”   37:17
Say, “Yes! And you will be fully humbled.”   37:18
It will only take one Blast, then at once they will see ˹it all˺.   37:19
They will cry, “Oh, woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!”   37:20
˹They will be told,˺ “This is the Day of ˹Final˺ Decision which you used to deny.”   37:21
˹Allah will say to the angels,˺ “Gather ˹all˺ the wrongdoers along with their peers, and whatever they used to worship   37:22
instead of Allah, then lead them ˹all˺ to the path of Hell.   37:23
And detain them, for they must be questioned.”   37:24
˹Then they will be asked,˺ “What is the matter with you that you can no longer help each other?”   37:25
In fact, on that Day they will be ˹fully˺ submissive.   37:26
They will turn on each other, throwing blame.   37:27
The misled will say, “It was you who deluded us away from what is right.”   37:28
The misleaders will reply, “No! You disbelieved on your own.   37:29
We had no authority over you. In fact, you yourselves were a transgressing people.   37:30
The decree of our Lord has come to pass against us ˹all˺: we will certainly taste ˹the punishment˺.   37:31
We caused you to deviate, for we ourselves were deviant.”   37:32
Surely on that Day they will ˹all˺ share in the punishment.   37:33
That is certainly how We deal with the wicked.   37:34
For whenever it was said to them ˹in the world˺, “There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah,” they acted arrogantly   37:35
and argued, “Should we really abandon our gods for a mad poet?”   37:36
In fact, he came with the truth, confirming ˹earlier˺ messengers.   37:37
You will certainly taste the painful torment,   37:38
and will only be rewarded for what you used to do.   37:39
But not the chosen servants of Allah.   37:40
They will have a known provision:   37:41
fruits ˹of every type˺. And they will be honoured   37:42
in the Gardens of Bliss,   37:43
facing each other on thrones.   37:44
A drink ˹of pure wine˺ will be passed around to them from a flowing stream:   37:45
crystal-white, delicious to drink.   37:46
It will neither harm ˹them˺, nor will they be intoxicated by it.   37:47
And with them will be maidens of modest gaze and gorgeous eyes,   37:48
as if they were pristine pearls.   37:49
Then they will turn to one another inquisitively.   37:50
One of them will say, “I once had a companion ˹in the world˺   37:51
who used to ask ˹me˺, ‘Do you actually believe ˹in resurrection˺?   37:52
When we are dead and reduced to dust and bones, will we really be brought to judgment?’”   37:53
He will ˹then˺ ask, “Would you care to see ˹his fate˺?”   37:54
Then he ˹and the others˺ will look and spot him in the midst of the Hellfire.   37:55
He will ˹then˺ say, “By Allah! You nearly ruined me.   37:56
Had it not been for the grace of my Lord, I ˹too˺ would have certainly been among those brought ˹to Hell˺.”   37:57
˹Then he will ask his fellow believers,˺ “Can you imagine that we will never die,   37:58
except our first death, nor be punished ˹like the others˺?”   37:59
This is truly the ultimate triumph.   37:60
For such ˹honour˺ all should strive.   37:61
Is this ˹bliss˺ a better accommodation or the tree of Zaqqûm?   37:62
We have surely made it a test for the wrongdoers.   37:63
Indeed, it is a tree that grows in the depths of Hell,   37:64
bearing fruit like devils’ heads.   37:65
The evildoers will certainly ˹be left to˺ eat from it, filling up their bellies with it.   37:66
Then on top of that they will be given a blend of boiling drink.   37:67
Then they will ultimately return to ˹their place in˺ Hell.   37:68
Indeed, they found their forefathers astray,   37:69
so they rushed in their footsteps!   37:70
And surely most of the earlier generations had strayed before them,   37:71
although We had certainly sent warners among them.   37:72
See then what was the end of those who had been warned.   37:73
But not the chosen servants of Allah.   37:74
Indeed, Noah cried out to Us, and how excellent are We in responding!   37:75
We delivered him and his family from the great distress,   37:76
and made his descendants the sole survivors.   37:77
And We blessed him ˹with honourable mention˺ among later generations:   37:78
“Peace be upon Noah among all peoples.”   37:79
Indeed, this is how We reward the good-doers.   37:80
˹For˺ he was truly one of Our faithful servants.   37:81
Then We drowned the others.   37:82
And indeed, one of those who followed his way was Abraham.   37:83
˹Remember˺ when he came to his Lord with a pure heart,   37:84
and said to his father and his people, “What are you worshipping?   37:85
Is it false gods that you desire instead of Allah?   37:86
What then do you expect from the Lord of all worlds?”   37:87
He later looked up to the stars ˹in contemplation˺,   37:88
then said, “I am really sick.”   37:89
So they turned their backs on him and went away.   37:90
Then he ˹stealthily˺ advanced towards their gods, and said ˹mockingly˺, “Will you not eat ˹your offerings˺?   37:91
What is wrong with you that you cannot speak?”   37:92
Then he swiftly turned on them, striking ˹them˺ with his right hand.   37:93
Later, his people came rushing towards him ˹furiously˺.   37:94
He argued, “How can you worship what you carve ˹with your own hands˺,   37:95
when it is Allah Who created you and whatever you do?”   37:96
They said ˹to one another˺, “Build him a furnace and cast him into the blazing fire.”   37:97
And so they sought to harm him, but We made them inferior.   37:98
He later said, “I am leaving ˹in obedience˺ to my Lord. He will guide me.   37:99
My Lord! Bless me with righteous offspring.”   37:100
So We gave him good news of a forbearing son.   37:101
Then when the boy reached the age to work with him, Abraham said, “O my dear son! I have seen in a dream that I ˹must˺ sacrifice you. So tell me what you think.” He replied, “O my dear father! Do as you are commanded. Allah willing, you will find me steadfast.”   37:102
Then when they submitted ˹to Allah’s Will˺, and Abraham laid him on his forehead ˹for sacrifice˺,   37:103
We called out to him, “O Abraham!   37:104
You have already fulfilled the vision.” Indeed, this is how We reward the good-doers.   37:105
That was truly a revealing test.   37:106
And We ransomed his son with a great sacrifice,   37:107
and blessed Abraham ˹with honourable mention˺ among later generations:   37:108
“Peace be upon Abraham.”   37:109
This is how We reward the good-doers.   37:110
He was truly one of Our faithful servants.   37:111
We ˹later˺ gave him good news of Isaac—a prophet, and one of the righteous.   37:112
We blessed him and Isaac as well. Some of their descendants did good, while others clearly wronged themselves.   37:113
And We certainly showed favour to Moses and Aaron,   37:114
and delivered them and their people from the great distress.   37:115
We helped them so it was they who prevailed.   37:116
We gave them the clear Scripture,   37:117
and guided them to the Straight Path.   37:118
And We blessed them ˹with honourable mention˺ among later generations:   37:119
“Peace be upon Moses and Aaron.”   37:120
Indeed, this is how We reward the good-doers.   37:121
They were truly ˹two˺ of Our faithful servants.   37:122
And Elias was indeed one of the messengers.   37:123
˹Remember˺ when he said to his people, “Will you not fear ˹Allah˺?   37:124
Do you call upon ˹the idol of˺ Ba’l and abandon the Best of Creators—   37:125
Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?”   37:126
But they rejected him, so they will certainly be brought ˹for punishment˺.   37:127
But not the chosen servants of Allah.   37:128
We blessed him ˹with honourable mention˺ among later generations:   37:129
“Peace be upon Elias.”   37:130
Indeed, this is how We reward the good-doers.   37:131
He was truly one of Our faithful servants.   37:132
And Lot was indeed one of the messengers.   37:133
˹Remember˺ when We delivered him and all of his family,   37:134
except an old woman, who was one of the doomed.   37:135
Then We ˹utterly˺ destroyed the rest.   37:136
You ˹Meccans˺ certainly pass by their ruins day   37:137
and night. Will you not then understand?   37:138
And Jonah was indeed one of the messengers.   37:139
˹Remember˺ when he fled to the overloaded ship.   37:140
Then ˹to save it from sinking,˺ he drew straws ˹with other passengers˺. He lost ˹and was thrown overboard˺.   37:141
Then the whale swallowed him up while he was blameworthy.   37:142
Had he not ˹constantly˺ glorified ˹Allah˺,   37:143
he would have certainly remained in its belly until the Day of Resurrection.   37:144
But We cast him onto the open ˹shore˺, ˹totally˺ worn out,   37:145
and caused a squash plant to grow over him.   37:146
We ˹later˺ sent him ˹back˺ to ˹his city of˺ one hundred thousand people or more,   37:147
who then believed ˹in him˺, so We allowed them enjoyment for a while.   37:148
Ask them ˹O Prophet˺ if your Lord has daughters, while the pagans ˹prefer to˺ have sons.   37:149
Or ˹ask them˺ if We created the angels as females right before their eyes.   37:150
Indeed, it is one of their ˹outrageous˺ fabrications to say,   37:151
“Allah has children.” They are simply liars.   37:152
Has He chosen daughters over sons?   37:153
What is the matter with you? How do you judge?   37:154
Will you not then be mindful?   37:155
Or do you have ˹any˺ compelling proof?   37:156
Then bring ˹us˺ your scripture, if what you say is true!   37:157
They have also established a ˹marital˺ relationship between Him and the jinn. Yet the jinn ˹themselves˺ know well that such people will certainly be brought ˹for punishment˺.   37:158
Glorified is Allah far above what they claim!   37:159
But not the chosen servants of Allah.   37:160
Surely you ˹pagans˺ and whatever ˹idols˺ you worship   37:161
can never lure ˹anyone˺ away from Him   37:162
except those ˹destined˺ to burn in Hell.   37:163
˹The angels respond,˺ “There is not one of us without an assigned station ˹of worship˺.   37:164
We are indeed the ones lined up in ranks ˹for Allah˺.   37:165
And we are indeed the ones ˹constantly˺ glorifying ˹His praise˺.”   37:166
They certainly used to say,   37:167
“If only we had a Reminder like ˹those of˺ earlier peoples,   37:168
we would have truly been Allah’s devoted servants.”   37:169
But ˹now˺ they reject it, so they will soon know.   37:170
Our Word has already gone forth to Our servants, the messengers,   37:171
that they would surely be helped,   37:172
and that Our forces will certainly prevail.   37:173
So turn away from the deniers for a while ˹O Prophet˺.   37:174
You will see ˹what will happen to˺ them, and they too will see!   37:175
Do they ˹really˺ wish to hasten Our punishment?   37:176
Yet when it descends upon them: how evil will that morning be for those who had been warned!   37:177
And turn away from them for a while.   37:178
You will see, and they too will see!   37:179
Glorified is your Lord—the Lord of Honour and Power—above what they claim!   37:180
Peace be upon the messengers.   37:181
And praise be to Allah—Lord of all worlds.   37:182
