Sahih Muslim 1194a (Book 15, Hadith 58) #9993
Refusing Gifts During Ihram

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) refused to accept a gift from al-Sa'b b. Jaththama while in a state of Ihram, as it is forbidden to do so.

Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) reported that al-Sa'b b. Jaththama presented to the Messenger of Allah a wild ass as he was in a state of Ihram, and he returned it to him saying: If we were not in a state of Ihram, we would have accepted it from you.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of following the rules and regulations set by Allah during the state of Ihram. In this hadith, we learn that even though al-Sa'b b. Jaththama offered a wild ass as a gift to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he refused it due to being in a state of Ihram, which forbids accepting gifts or presents from anyone else. This teaches us that we should always follow Allah's commands and not break any rules or regulations set by Him, no matter how tempting it may seem at times. We should also remember that our actions have consequences and if we disobey Allah's commands then there will be repercussions for us in this life and in the hereafter as well.
