Observe religious obligations with utmost sincerity

This hadith speaks to the importance of fasting on two special days, namely, the day of Ashura and during the month of Ramadan. The narrator, Ibn Abbas, was asked about observing fast on the day of Ashura and he replied that he did not know Allah's Messenger singling out any other day's fast as being more excellent than this one or any other month except for these two. This hadith emphasizes that fasting during these two days is important in Islam as it has been mentioned by Allah's Messenger himself. It teaches us to be mindful when it comes to religious obligations such as fasting and encourages us to observe them with utmost sincerity.
