QUICK LESSONS:
Practice moderation in religious practices & other aspects of life
EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, prohibited his companions from observing a continuous fast known as Saum Wisal. This type of fast is when a person does not break their fast for more than one day and night. It is believed that this type of fasting was practiced by some people before the advent of Islam and the Prophet wanted to discourage it in order to prevent people from over-exerting themselves and becoming ill or weak due to lack of food and water. He also wanted to ensure that Muslims practice moderation in all aspects of their lives, including fasting. This hadith teaches us the importance of moderation in our religious practices as well as other aspects of life, such as eating habits and physical activity.
